As a Scientist in the Enzyme Development Group, you will collaboratively drive the design and development of high-quality enzymes for Illumina consumable reagents which are used on our sequencing platforms.

The role

You will leverage your expertise in enzymology and analytical methods for biochemical characterization to determine the critical parameters for protein purification, function, stability, and performance

Responsibilities Will Include

• Engage in cross-functional collaboration with relevant teams to accelerate the development of novel enzymes used in Illumina’s NGS platforms
• Exercise independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for product development
• Utilise expert knowledge and execute biochemical characterization experiments for critical enzyme components of Illumina sequencing reagents
• Apply deep knowledge and hands-on expertise in optimizing biomolecule stability in various storage conditions
• Be a strong individual contributor
• Plan and execute diverse laboratory activities with limited instruction
• Employ analytical tools for protein characterization and demonstrate their predictive value for reagent performance and quality
• Write technical reports and prepare presentations for cross-functional technical teams and senior leadership
• Employ and explain statistical methods to drive decisions
  
  

Preferred Background, Skills And Experience

• Degree in biochemistry, biophysics, or other related discipline.
• PhD with some experience would be an advantage or degree with considerable experience in Biomolecular Sciences.
• Highly motivated, team-oriented and detailed individual with the proven ability to think innovatively towards solving problems, effectively and efficiently
• Some experience in the development methodologies for improving biomolecule stability is required
• Some experience in kinetic characterization of enzymes.
• Application to nucleic acid-binding proteins (DNA repair, ligases, polymerases, etc) is a plus
• Experience of DNA amplification methods & DNA processing enzymes
• Experience in biochemical/biophyisical characterization
• Experience in protein engineering desirable
• Proficient in the application of statistical methods, JMP/DoE experience highly desired
• Experience with Critical Parameter Management or Design for Six Sigma methodology highly desired
