Lecturer in Early Childhood Studies

Job Description

SUSE are seeking a Lecturer in Early Childhood Studies (Research Academic Career Pathway) to be Programme Director of this Early Childhood Studies programme.    Our aim is to develop a course that will meet the current and future needs of Early Childhood practitioners and serve the needs of local community. We welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates with research and teaching expertise in this field.  The person we are looking for will have:

  • A clear understanding of an early childhood studies philosophy and socio-cultural approach;
  • Knowledge of early childhood policy in Wales from birth onwards, with clear understandings of how these issues may be different for infants, toddlers and young children;
  • A good awareness of various environments that promote and restrict opportunities for children and families to prosper, and policy which influences this;
  • Knowledge and in interest in early childhood rights, policy and legislation from birth onwards, with clear understandings of how these issues may be different for infants, toddlers and young children and in multi-discipline contexts, in Wales and globally.

The successful candidate will direct and support the continued development of teaching, postgraduate supervision and research in Early Childhood Studies at Swansea. S/he will lead undergraduate modules drawing on their own specialism and contribute to the School’s team-taught undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Early Childhood Studies.  The School is committed to innovative forms of teaching and to enhancing the employability of its students and thus welcomes applications from individuals with ideas and experience in these fields. S/he will contribute to the School’s research agenda and its planned REF submission, by developing research proposals and building a portfolio of funded projects, supervising Post-graduate Research Students, and producing high quality research publications.


  1. A PhD in a relevant subject area or a degree and relevant professional experience or qualification 
  2. Recognised teaching qualification or equivalent or a commitment to achieve this
